Project MM:OoT revival

Postby Twilight on Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:39 pm

As you may or may not know, back in 2007 Dark_Link-77 started a project with the goal of porting every map from Majora's Mask into Ocarina of Time. It was abandoned shortly after. I am going to continue this project right here at TBT. Who will join me?

Didn't I post a map porting tutorial here?

Anyway, there are several things you'll need to figure out first, so don't go rushing ahead.
First of all, you'll need to get rid of all Majora's Mask cutscenes, because they'll cause a crash if OoT tries to load them. Make sure you know how to do that (it's in the scene file).
Also you need to figure out the difference between OoT and MM doors, because at the moment in area with more than one room (e.g. Stock Pot Inn) only the first room loads and the doors then have no effect.
There may also be problems porting every map because that's a lot of maps, and so unless we can find a way to add completely new maps into the game (as in not overwriting another map) and assign exit numbers to them, it may end up being quite limited.
Unless it's just for pure awesomeness and exploration, you'll also need to think up a storyline. Implementing the story could prove difficult.

I'm not trying to put you off on this, it's a great idea, but don't just dive into it only to realise later that you can't do it as well as you planned.

If you need any help from me with this project, I'll be able to help but I'm quite busy in the week so I may not be able to help very much or often. Also I still have my own stuff to be working on.

I could set up my porter to automatically do all the maps if the demand is great enough

Thanks, but no thanks. All of the porting will be done manually without the aid of your porter.

Hmm...

His porter would be much quicker though, plus he knows quite a bit more than us on how to port the maps with better results, but if you really want to do it all manually, of course. It's always good to have experience.
